Manhattan, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Thirteen commuters were injured when the (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) PATH passenger train crashed near Herald Square Wednesday morning, October 21, 2009, announced the New York Times.
Sixty to eighty Firefighters responded to the scene when a seven-car passenger train accident injured at least 13 passengers on board.
The train was scheduled to arrive at 33rd Street in Manhattan near Herald Square when the train suddenly braked and passengers jolted forward when it the train flew past its final destination stop and barreled into the emergency “bumping block”.
The PATH train was transporting commuters from Hoboken, New Jersey when the accident took place. Emergency medical services(EMS) arrived to treat and transport the injured. Investigators are in the process of determining the cause of the train overrunning its last stop.
Jennifer Friedberg, representative of PATH, reported that EMS transported two of the train employees along with five passengers to local hospitals to be treated by doctors and nurses for their minor injuries. Many refused to be treated by paramedics.
It was reported that their were close to 450 commuters on board when the public transportation system train crashed. around 8:15 a.m.Wednesday morning.
The PATH train has the capacity to carrying 900 passengers, however, their were only 450 people on board at the time of the accident. No major injuries were reported . Investigators continue to look into the accident to determine the reason the train did not stop until it struck the emergency block.
