Virginia personal injury lawyers alert- A military helicopter crashed into the USNS Arctic mast.

Virginia Beach, VA—A routine joint Army/Navy training exercise left one person dead and eight others injured after a helicopter crashed into the mast of the USNS Arctic. The fatal crash happened on Thursday, October 22, 2009 around 8:00 p.m., about 20 nautical miles from the coast of Fort Story, as reported by WAVY.

According to Navy officials, two Army choppers were conducting training exercises with the Navy, when one of the helicopters for unknown reasons slammed into the mast of the USNS Arctic. The helicopters were apparently training for a “routine search and seizure exercise,” when the horrific crash occurred. The injured military officials were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital via the other helicopter involved in the training exercise. The names and identities of the injured and deceased military personnel have not been released at this time. No one on board of the USNS Arctic, which is a sealift command ship, was reportedly injured during the helicopter crash. The official cause of the crash is currently still under investigation by police officials. Officials do not believe weather was a factor in the deadly training exercise. The USNS Arctic was returned to Naval Station Norfolk with the damaged chopper on board for further investigation.
