Sheboygan County Sheriff alerts Wisconsin truck accident lawyers- A Ford pickup truck and school bus were involved in a crash.
Sheboygan, WI–A Tuesday morning school bus crash hospitalized five people, and caused 19 others to seek medical attention. A pickup truck broadsided a school bus carrying 25 students on October 27, 2009 around 8:40 a.m. at the intersection of Abbott Drive and Lynn Road, as reported by the Sheboygan Press.
The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department reported, a school bus transporting 25 Random Lake Elementary School students pulled out into the intersection of Abbott Drive and Lynn Road and cut off a eastbound Ford-F20 that was towing a utility trailer. The Ford pickup truck then slammed into the side of the bus. The driver of the school bus, Jusy Degnitz, 51, of Degnitz Bus Service in Fredonia, stated the fog was so thick and see was having trouble seeing. Degnitz said she opened the doors of the school bus in an attempt to see clearer, and to hear if any vehicles were approaching.
The fog reportedly limited visibility to 100 yards. The driver of the Ford pickup truck, Nicholas R. Mueller, 30, of Adell hit the school bus right behind the doors, and hit a stop sign before coming to a halt. Mueller and her two children, Tyler Kies, 9, and Owen Kies, 7, were injured in the wreck. All three family members were transported by emergency medical services (EMS) teams to Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee in Mequon for treatment of their injuries.
A total of fourteen students were treated by EMS crews at the scene of the crash. Two students were transported to St. Nicholas Hospital by EMS ambulance for treatment. The student’s injuries were described as bumps, bruises, and cuts. The remaining uninjured students were taken the rest of the way to school by another bus. Ambulance crews from Random Lake, Plymouth, Waubea, and Oostburg, and Random Lake First Responders all responded to the crash. Degnitz was cited by police officials for failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign.
