Sutton, MA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A firefighter suffered injuries while battling a blazing house fire in Sutton, Massachusetts, Monday, October 26, 2009, announced the Worcester Telegram.
Firefighters from Sutton, Millbury, Grafton and Uxbridge responded to the blaze around 1 p.m. at 60 Boston Road, where a maroon Cape-style home had turned into a roaring inferno. Fire Chief Paul Maynard reported that there was not anybody inside the house at the time of the fire.
A neighbor woman who lived next door reported that she heard a loud explosive boom, and that the impact shook her house. Police soon appeared at the neighbor’s door to tell her to leave her property due to spreading flames at the adjacent house.
Another neighbor reported that they heard the explosion and mentioned that there may be a gas tank close by. Officials did not confirm about a gas tank being on the premises. Local fire officials are investigating the blaze to determine the cause. The causeway and two parked vehicles were damaged along with the devastated house.
Billowing smoke climbed several miles into the sky and traveled onto Route 146, Monday afternoon. By 1:50 p.m. Firefighters had entered the house after breaking through the windows and were combating the fire in the house attic. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for unspecified injuries. His condition was not reported.
