Police reported that the school bus was traveling north of the Long Island Expressway near Sills Road when the crash took place. Police officials reported the scene of the crash with emergency medical services (EMS) to transport the injured.
School authorities reported that the children were apparently unharmed in the wreck. Police did not report the damages done to the vehicles. It was unclear if the bus driver had sustained injuries. The school bus was part of the Longwood School District, reported a district authority.
Police reported the collision occurred before school hours at around 6:18 a.m., Thursday morning. The driver of the car that rear ended the bus remained unidentified. The roadway was temporarily shut down for the scene of the crash to be cleaned up. It was not reported if anyone was taken to the hospital.
Authorities did not identify the school where the children attended. The closest school in the district to the scene of the accident is Charles E. Walters Elementary School on Everett Drive. The investigation continues.
