Personal Injury Alert: Toddler dies after becoming entangled with drapery cord

Damascus, MD (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A toddlers tragic death occurred when a 2-year-old became entangled in a drapery cord around 3 p.m. Sunday, November 1, 2009, announced WUSA.

The tragic death occurred in Damascus, Maryland, when parents found their baby boy entangled in the cords of their house drapes. Montgomery police reported to the scene of the horrific accident. The boy was identified as Thapelo Andre Kwofie, resident of Valley Park Court.

Thapelo’s family was at home at the time of the fatal accident. One of the family members discovered the toddler collapsed on the ground and unresponsive. The family member began administering CPR to the child to resuscitate him until the ambulance arrived. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue were called to the scene.

The small boy was rushed to the Shady Grove Hospital for doctors to attempt to revive him. Little Thapelo was unfortunately pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Montgomery County police detectives are investigating the fatal accident to determine what happened. “It doesn’t appear to be a case of abuse or neglect,” said Montgomery County police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks. “It’s just an accidental death,” reported news sources.

The government agency the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov reports defective products due to reports of injury or malfunction. Consumers are advised to report any accidental injury or death by a potential defective product to the CPSC.
