The Occupational Health and Safety Administration alerts- A worker is dead after being hit in the head by a forklift in Chicago.
Chicago, IL—A man was killed when he was hit in the head by a forklift shortly before midnight on Monday, November 23, 2009. Jesus Hernandez-Blas was working in an industrial park located at 10111 Anderson Avenue in southwest suburban Chicago Ridge, when he was fatally injured, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Hernandez-Blas, 26, was working for Resource Management when he was struck in the head by the heavy piece of machinery. It is currently unknown why he was hit in the head by the forklift. Police officials have since issued a drug and alcohol test to the forklift operator,which he passed. Emergency medical services (EMS) teams rushed to the scene and pronounced Hernandez-Blas dead after his injuries proved fatal. Police officials stated the forklift operator has been cooperative, and they are currently trying to determine why he did not see the worker. The dense fog in the area may be a factor in why the operator did not see him. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office scheduled an autopsy for Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death. Officials with the U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) http://www.osha.gov/ are expected to arrive at the scene and conduct a full investigation.
