Englewood Cliffs, NJ (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A New Jersey-based company has recalled millions of canned Slim-fast shakes nation-wide due to the potential bacterial contamination that could make consumers ill, announced the Wall Street Journal, on December,7, 2009.

Unilever authorities stated that the possible bacterial contaminate is the micro-organism Bacillus cereus, which can cause nausea, diarrhea, and/or vomiting. Consumers are advised to disregard the potentially hazardous product and contact the company for a full refund.

The Slim-fast recall was prompted by a quality test that was performed on the product by the Anglo-Dutch consumer-goods group. Unilever stated that the recall was “out of an abundance of caution, the company is recalling all ready-to-drink products in cans that are currently in distribution centers, on-shelf or in back rooms in retail outlets or in consumers’ homes”.

Normal shipments of the popular product were scheduled to resume after the recall was properly addressed. The 11-ounce cans of Slim-fast meal shakes came in cartons of four, six or twelve cans. Individual cans were also sold at other outlets. The cost of 24 cans of the product was estimated at $33.83. All consumers are encouraged to discontinue drinking the product and contact the company for a full refund.
