Syosset, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – The Long Island Expressway (LIE) was backed up after a milk truck crashed into a car near exit 43 on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, announced WABC.
The milk truck, had lost control of his vehicle when he blew a tire. Then, the milk truck launched into another motor vehicle that had already pulled off the the side of the road shortly before 3 a.m, reported police. The News helicopter was hovering over the scene of the crash, where the eastbound lanes of traffic were blocked off by the wrecked truck and damaged car.
New York police officials reported that the people traveling in the car miraculously escaped out of the vehicle before the crash, and remained unscathed. Debris had also surrounded them, but they did not suffer serious injuries. The milk truck overturned and burst into flames. Crews cleaned up the scene of the wreck hours afterward.
Police reported that the eastbound traffic on the LIE was redirected to service roads at the South Oyster Bay Road exit. Eastbound traffic was directed off the highway to the service road at the South Oyster Bay Road exit. The westbound lanes of the Expressway were slowed due to passerby motorists gawking at the scene of the crash.
