Legal news for New Jersey Personal Injury attorneys–A baby was given the wrong prescription at Roselle, NJ CVS, which his mother fears may have caused permanent damage to her child.
Roselle, NJ (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A mother had given a medication to her 8-month-old infant that had been labeled with the wrong dosage, Monday, December 14, 2009, announced WABC.
The frightened and confused New Jersey mother was unknowingly giving her 19-pound baby a prescription dose of cough medicine that a 120-pound person should take. Jayden Trowbridge was concerned when her baby would not sleep for four days straight when he was reportedly taking quadruple the dose of Carbofed DM. Jayden said that her baby was acting jittery, anxious, and was acting out of character in general.
The infant’s family is very concerned that the baby may have suffered from permanent damage due to the overdose. The mother got the prescription from the CVS in Roselle where the label read that the infant should be given one teaspoon every 12 hours, which is for a 120 pound person.
An overdose of this medication could pose deadly hazards to adults much less a child, stated the child’s grandmother. Jayden’s pediatrician claimed that the prescription called in to CVS for the child said to take one-fourth of a teaspoon every 12 hours. The CVS store corporate headquarters in Rhode Island reported that they are investigating the situation.
