Infant car seat/carriers recalled by the CPSC and NHSTA

Consumer Product Safety Commission alerts product liability attorney- Infant car seats made by Dorel Juvenile group Inc. were recalled due to fall hazard.

Columbus, IN—The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) http://www.nhtsa.gov/ and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov/ announced the recall of the Dorel Infant car seat/carriers. The recalled was released on Friday, December 18, 2009, which advises consumers to discontinue use immediately unless otherwise instructed, as reported by the CPSC.

A total of 447,000 Dorel infant car seat/carriers, which were manufactured by the Dorel Juvenile Group Inc., of Columbus, Ohio, have been recalled. The government agencies state that when the product is used as an infant carrier, the child restraint handle to the seat can come loose and detach, which poses a fall hazard to the child. So far, there have been 77 reports of the child restraint handle completely and partially detaching from the carrier, which has caused three infants to sustain bumps, bruises, and a head injury. The recall includes Safety 1st, Cosco, Eddie Bauer and Disney brand infant car seat/carriers. The products were manufactured from January 6, 2008 through April 6, 2009. The carrier model number and manufacture date is located on a label located on the side of the recalled car seat/carrier. The carriers were sold with Travel Systems. The stroller, which is apart of the travel system, is not affected by this recall. The recalled product was sold by department and juvenile product stores throughout the U.S. from January 2009 through December 2009 for retail prices between $120 and $220. The recalled child restraint model numbers and brands are as follows:

• Safety 1st: 22-057 DBY, 22-085 DWA, 22-057 CLN, 22-057 HRT, 22-322 HRR, 22-322 PTK, 22-057 LPH, 22-085 LYN, 22-322 KDL, 22-322 LXI, 22-322 OLY, 22-322 PRS, 22-322 MAI, 22-325 COB, 22-095 RBK, 22-308 LGA, 22-380 MSA, 22-627 WAV, 22-325 PAC.
• Cosco: 22-200 FZN, 22-300 OSF, 22-300 CSF, 22-300 JJV, 22-300 THD, 22-300 TWD.
• Disney: 22-627 AWF, 22-355 LBF, 22-305 NAB, 22-305 PPH, 22-355 PWK.
• Eddie Bauer: 22-627 CGT, 22-627 SNW, 22-627 WPR, 22-627 KGS, 22-655 BYTE.

Consumers are being advised stop the use of the product as a carrier until a repair kit is installed on the product. The product can still be used as a car seat when properly secured inside a vehicle.
