Surveillance tapes record man being run over by car, leaving him seriously injured.
Fort Lauderdale, FL—Outdoor grocery store surveillance cameras recorded an entire incident in which police officers from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, with the aid of bystanders, helped rescue a man who was pinned under the vehicle after being run over in a violent confrontation on Monday, December 21, 2009, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
A landlord by the name of John Henry Hill, 63, was telling a renter’s father, Franklin Parker, 59, not to park on the grass when the man allegedly became excessively aggressive with the landlord, threatening him and then reportedly began chasing him in a 1992 Ford Taurus.
Hill was allegedly seen on the outdoor surveillance camera videotape, running from the oncoming vehicle, falling near a sidewalk, and then consequently being run over. Once under the vehicle, he was left there for over two minutes pending the arrival of police officers. Eyewitnesses allegedly restrained the angry driver after fighting with him.
Responding officers on the scene reportedly asked bystanders to help lift the passenger’s side of the car to free the landlord who had been caught underneath it for minutes. Once the car was lifted on it’s side, another officer pulled the man from beneath the vehicle pending the arrival of fire rescue personnel. Hill was eventually transported to Broward General Medical Center to be treated by doctors and nurses for the injuries he acquired after being run over.
The driver of the vehicle was allegedly charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Parker was also reportedly charged with two counts of assault after getting into fights with witnesses at the scene that were trying to subdue the livid driver.
