Product Liability: Cressi Scuba Regulators recalled due risk of drowning

Legal news for New Jersey Product Liability attorneys—Cressi regulators recalled due to defect that could pose a drowning threat.

Westwood, NJ (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov and Health Canada, in cooperation with Cressi-sub USA, announced December 23, 2009 a recall of Cressi Ellipse Black MC5 Regulator due to inaccurate pressure readings, which can be hazardous to divers. All divers, who have purchased these defective products, should discontinue use immediately.

There have been three reported incidents where the High Pressure (HP) port exhibited the wrong reading on the pressure gauge, which could result in a slow descent and pose a drowning hazard for divers. There have been no injuries reported due to the gauge.

There are about 200 defective products being voluntarily recalled at this time. The regulators were sold at dive shops across the country and online from March 2009 though August 2009. The Italy-manufactured regulators were sold for $280 through $309.

The recalled regulators were described as “Cressi MC5” and “Cressi Black” under the model number Eclipse Black MC5, which is printed on the regulator. All consumers who have bought one of these regulators are advised to return them to a Cressi- authorized diving store to be repaired at no charge, or send the product to: One Charles Street, Westwood, New Jersey, 07675. For more information regarding the product, consumers may contact Cressi at (800) 338-9143 or visit them online at www.cressi.com
