One dead after fatal collision between car and semi-truck.

Ashtabula County, OH— A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving a car and a semi-truck left one person fatally injured in the Wednesday, December 23, 2009 crash, according to information provided by WKYC, an NBC news affiliate. The fatal collision allegedly happened in Ashtabula County’s Windsor Township on Route 322 at Wisdell Road.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, the car involved was traveling east on Route 322, while the semi-truck was heading west at the time of the incident. The car reportedly veered left of the centerline, which caused the semi-truck tried to swerve to avoid the car but allegedly failed in doing so. This reportedly left the car stuck underneath the semi-truck. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by emergency medical services (EMS) personnel. Police officials did not release her identity.

During the crash a great amount of oil and gas was allegedly spilt all over the road, consequently leaving Route 322 closed. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) http://www.epa.gov was allegedly called to the scene of the tragic crash to supervise the clean-up. It was reported that approximately 150 gallons of diesel fuel was spilt onto the roadway. It is unknown whether the semi-truck driver sustained any injuries in the crash, or when Route 322 will re-open for public use.
