Ohio double fatality 18-wheeler crash; Police investigating

Ohio State Patrol alerts- A crash involving an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck resulted in a double fatality.

Elyria, OH—A fatal collision between a semi-truck and a pickup truck left two people dead on SR 57. The tragic motor vehicle collision (MVC) occurred around midnight on Thursday, December 31, 2009, as reported by The Morning Journal.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (ODPS), a pickup truck was traveling northbound on SR 57, when for unknown reasons the pickup truck crossed the double yellow lines and slammed into an oncoming tractor-trailer. The violent collision sparked a fire, which quickly engulfed both of the vehicles in flames. Responding rescue teams pronounced the driver of the pickup truck, Donald E. Berg, 49, of Columbia Station, Ohio, and his passenger dead at the scene. Police are withholding the identity of the passenger until their family has been properly notified. The driver of the semi, William T. Bennett, 35, of Louisville, Ohio, sustained “minor” injuries, and was treated at the scene of the crash by medical professionals and was released. Both of the vehicles were heavily damaged in the collision, which were towed from the scene by Dunlap’s Towing. The Grafton Village Fire Department and EMS, Grafton Police Department, Lorain County Coroners Office, Ohio Department of Transportation all responded to the scene. Ohio state Patrol is reportedly conducting an investigation into the double fatal wreck.
