Shreveport, LA—Two Longview residents were injured while working on a natural gas rig Tuesday night, December 29, 2009. The two workers were reportedly conducting maintenance work at the Davis Et Al 36H-1 natural gas well in northern Desoto Parish around 9:00 p.m., as reported by Shreveport Times.
It is currently unknown how the accident occurred that injured two Bronco Oilfield Services of Longview, Texas employees. The workers were reportedly performing equipment maintenance on the natural gas well when the incident occurred. One of the workers, Jesus Ortez, 50, of Longview, was left with a severely mangled hand due to the pressure released by a valve. Ortez was airlifted by Life Air to Louisiana State University Hospital in Shreveport for treatment of his serious injuries. Ortez lost his hand in the workplace accident. The other worker was transported by emergency medical services (EMS) teams to Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview, Texas for treatment of his “minor” injures, and was later released. The tragic workplace accident is currently under investigation by police officials. The Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) are also expected to investigate the accident. The natural gas well is reportedly in the final stages of completion.
