New York, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – The federal agency the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov in cooperation with St. Martin’s Press LLC, of New York, New York, recalled “Big Rex and Friends” cloth books due to dangerous levels of lead, January 8, 2010.
The voluntary recall involved 204,000 defective products. All consumers who have purchased one or more of these products are advised to discontinue use immediately. The cloth books, which were manufactured in China, were recalled due to identified high levels of lead paint, which exceed government standards.
The lead was found in a red plastic dot that is sown on the book. The children’s book “Big Rex and Friends” was described as having black and white stripped border with a red dinosaur on the cover. The ISBN number is 031249260X or 9780312492601 and can be found printed on the back of the cloth book. There have not been any injuries reported as of yet. Lead exposure to children is especially dangerous to their health.
All who have purchased these products are advised to remove the cloth books from children and contact St. Martin’s Press. The recalled products were sold at Barnes & Noble, Toys “R” Us, Amazon, Borders and other participating retail stores through May 2004 through October 2009 for the price of $9.
