Fatal Indiana crash involving a school bus sent 11 kids to hospital with minor injuries.
Carroll County, IN—One person was reported fatally injured in a motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving a school bus on Thursday, January 7, 2010, according to information provided by WTHITV.com, CBS News affiliate. The fatal two-vehicle crash occurred on State Road 421 and 100 North in Carroll County, south of Delphi.
Deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office allegedly stated that a southbound Sedan, driven by Kasey Schnepp, 40, was traveling on US Route 421 when he lost control of his car, subsequently causing him to strike the front of a school bus. Schnepp was allegedly pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck. The doors of the Sedan reportedly had to be removed so responding emergency medical services (EMS) personnel could remove the fatally injured driver from his badly damaged vehicle. Of the 28 students aboard the bus, 11 were reportedly transported to Lafayette area medical centers to receive treatment for the minor injuries they sustained in the bus crash. The Dephi Community Schools Superintendent allegedly reported that a bloody nose was the most serious of the injuries suffered by the students on the bus. Responding medical professionals also took Tracy Bradshaw, the school bus driver, to a local hospital for treatment by doctors and nurses. The rest of the kids were allegedly transferred onto an alternate bus and taken to school where counseling was available if needed.
US 421 was shut down pending crash investigations. Police investigators reportedly claimed that the fatal accident occurred due to poor weather conditions.
