Cumberland County, PA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – An elderly New York couple had just finished dinner out when they were crossing the street and were struck by a car Friday, January 8, 2009, according to WGAL.
Pennsylvania police officials reported to the scene in front of the Middlesex Diner where the couple crossed Route 11, and the motor vehicle struck them. It was reported that Route 11 was usually a busy road. Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene to rush the husband and wife to the hospital for medical treatment. The husband was identified as 83-year-old Stanley Barnhart. He and his wife Regina were seriously injured in the incident.
A medical chopper landed near the scene to pick up both of the victims. They were taken to Penn State Hershey Medical Center to be cared for by doctors and nurses. Stanley’s injuries proved fatal while at the hospital. Regina’s condition was not disclosed. Police had records of other pedestrians being hit on this stretch of road. The speed limit was lowered due to the previous incidents. The driver of the car was not identified. It was not determined if the driver will face charges.
