Legal news for New York product liability attorneys–Nurture Inc. and the Food and Drug Administration recalled baby food for potential bacterial contamination.
New York, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — The Food and Drug Administration advised all consumers to not feed infants Happytot Stage 4 and Happybaby Stage 1 and Stage 2 baby foods due to a discovery that pouches were leaking or swollen. The FDA announced the recall of the potentially hazardous products January 13, 2010, which was prompted by the company due to potential bacterial contamination.
The meals involved in the recall were: Happytot Green bean, pear & peas, Happytot Sweet potato, carrot, apple & cinnamon, Happytot Spinach, mango & pear, Happytot Butternut squash & apple, Happytot Banana, peach, coconut & prunes, Happytot Banana, peach & mango, Happybaby Mango, Happybaby Spinach Mango Pear, and Happybaby Apricot Sweet Potato.
The baby food came in plastic pouches with plastic caps with the expiration dates between October 2010 and January 2011. The products were sold at participating stores across the country. The FDA received a complaint from a consumer who opened a swollen pouch and the Brooklyn-based company, Nurture Inc. was alerted by the FDA. The company investigated and found additional pouches that were swollen or leaking.
FDA is conducting tests for possible bacterial contamination. Although there have not been illnesses reported due to the baby food, the FDA is inspecting the manufacturing process.
