Five firefighters injured in 2-Alarm Baltimore blaze

Baltimore, Maryland (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) ― A two-alarm blaze at a rowhouse in Baltimore sent five firefighters to the hospital, Friday morning, January 15, 2010 according to WJZ.

Baltimore firefighters responded to the call and rushed out to battle the fiery rowhouse at 6 a.m. They arrived at the 2-alarm blaze on Northeast Avenue where heavy black smoke filled the air followed by the climbing flames. Fire Department spokesman Chief reported that the fire spread from the basement up to the first floor.

While combating the fiery structure, there was a reported five firefighters injured and needing medical attention. Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene of the blaze and transported one firefighter to Bayview Burn Center, where doctors and nurse treated him for a broken arm and a first-degree burn. He was reported to be in stable condition.

Four more firefighters were transported to area hospitals for other minor injuries, which were not specified. Medical officials said they were in stable condition. It took firefighters 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control. Fire officials continue to investigate the fire to determine the cause. It was not known if there were any people in the house when the fire began.
