NY snowmobile collision hospitalizes police officer

Legal news for New York motor vehicle accident attorneys– A snowmobile collision sent one police officer to the hospital.

Edinburg, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Two snowmobiles collided injuring one police officer on Great Sacandaga Lake on Saturday night, January 16, 2010, according to the Albany Times Union.

Emergency medical services (EMS) rushed to the scene of the crash. Authorities from the Saratoga Sheriff’s Office reported that the two East Greenbush men were riding their snowmobiles when suddenly they crashed into one another, which launched one of the operators off the vehicle and struck his head on the ice.

Police reported to the scene where 48-year-old Edward Miano suffered a potential traumatic brain injury (TBI) and back injuries. He was reported to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. The other snowmobile rider was identified as 45-year-old Joe Kelly, who sustained minor injuries in the wreck. Medical officials at the scene treated Kelly.

A trauma helicopter arrived at the scene to transport Officer Miano to Albany Medical Center, where doctors and nurses treated him. He was reported to be in stable condition. Police continue to investigate the snowmobile accident. It was not reported how the crash occurred. It was not reported if alcohol was involved in the accident
