Three dead, one injured after fatal car crash in Michigan.
Oakland County, MI—A mother driving her daughter and two other teens to school Monday morning, January 11, 2010, were involved in a tragic motor vehicle collision (MVC) that killed the three teens on their way to school. The fatal crash occurred on Joslyn Road in Orion Township, according to information provided by the Daily Tribune. The three teens that were fatally injured in the wreck were reportedly freshman students attending Oxford High School.
The fatal car crash reportedly happened at 6:59 a.m., when the northbound 2005 Toyota Camry, driven by the mother of one of the victims, Barbara Felder, 39, allegedly lost control of her vehicle on the icy roadway. The Camry reportedly veered into southbound lanes where her car was hit broadside by an oncoming 2002 GMC Sierra pickup truck. Police officials allegedly stated that the pickup truck, driven by a 40-year-old Lake Orion resident, seemed to be in his lane and driving below 35 miles per hour.
It was reported that the Camry driver’s daughter, 14-year-old Ashley Felder, was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene. Her mother was suffered injuries in the motor vehicle accident and was transported by emergency medical services (EMS) crews to an area hospital for treatment. She was reportedly listed in stable condition later that day. Two 14-year-old twins who were passengers in the Camry were allegedly not wearing seat belts at the time of the incident. The teens, Brianna and Sy’mone Johnson were transported to POH Regional Medical Center though their injuries proved fatal upon their arrival at the hospital. The truck driver was not reported injured in the wreck.
Joslyn Road was allegedly closed until approximately 10 a.m. pending further investigation and so officials could clear the scene. It is believed that poor weather conditions contributed to the fatal two-vehicle crash.
