The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) allegedly reported that a westbound 1999 GMC Sonoma, driven by 24-year-old Kenneth R. Brawley, was traveling on Route 47 when he veered over the centerline for unknown reasons. Simultaneously, an oncoming 1999 Suzuki Vitara, driven by 43-year-old Mildred Y. Baker, was traveling on the highway when the GMC drove into eastbound lanes, subsequently colliding with Baker’s SUV. It was reported that debris from the initial wreck hit a third car though nobody in the vehicle was injured as result.

Four people, including 41-year-old Keith R. Ramsour and two children, 7-year-old Charles A. Whitford, and 2-year-old Daniel H. Whitford were in the Suzuki at the time of the violent wreck. Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel responded to the scene to transport the seriously injured children to St. Louis Children’s Hospital to be treated by doctors and nurses. It was noted that none of the adults in either of the vehicles were reportedly wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Both children, on the other hand, allegedly wore their safety belts.
