Legal news for New York personal injury attorneys –A high school science experiment resulted in chemical explosion injuring eight.
Boiceville, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A chemical explosion at a New York high school injured seven students and a teacher, Tuesday, January, 19, 2010, according to The Mid-Hudson News. New York State police reported to the scene at Onteora High School where a science experiment had gone terribly wrong.
Police gave this account of the incident: One of the glass beakers spontaneously exploded and chards of glass flew at the surrounding students and the teacher. The teacher had been in the process of showing the class an experiment with chemicals mixed in the glass beaker at the time before it was to be completed by the students.
The 11th grade science teacher, identified as Donald Bucher, sustained a minor laceration to his arm, while seven students also sustained minor injuries in the explosion. The victims also suffered from temporary hearing loss. Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the high school to treat and transport those needed medical attention.
The injured students, along with Bucher, traveled via multiple ambulances to Kingston and Benedictine hospitals in the area where medical professionals treated the group’s lacerations and other minor injuries. They were all released after being treated. Police continue to investigate the incident.
