Lothian, MD (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A three-alarm blaze in Lothian injured two firefighters when the first floor of the two-story house collapsed, Wednesday, January 20, 2010, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Responding firefighters arrived at the 5800 block of the Little Road after the fire was reported at 1:35 p.m. While firefighters were inside the two-story inferno, the first floor fell apart due to damages from the flames and sent five firefighters onto the basement floor. Three of the firefighters escaped out of the house without injury.
Two others needed to be rescued and pulled from the rubble in the basement. Once they were pulled to safety from the burning house, ambulances transported them to area hospitals where they were cared for by doctors and nurses.
The Division Chief reported that one of the firefighters was in good condition; while the condition of the other injured firefighter was not released. Firefighters fought the blaze tirelessly for three hours until the flame were brought under control. It was not reported if the house was inhabited by residents and their whereabouts.
The fire officials estimated the cost of the damages of the three-alarm blaze to be roughly $500,000. Fire officials are also investigating the blaze to determine what started it. The investigation continues.
