There have been 162,000 of the defective mops sold nationwide September 2006 through September 2009. The Connecticut-based company issued the recall after receiving 14 reported cases where hot water spewed out of the mop’s reservoir compartment, which caused two consumers be transported to area hospitals for medical attention.
This potential hazard of hot water mixed with Lysol could rip apart a housing unit, which can pose a burn and a laceration hazard to all who use the mops. The models of the Lysol Cleaning Mops involved in the recall are numbers SM10L or SM10LR, which is located on the bottom of the mop under the cloth. The mops were sold at drug stores, department stores, and hardware, home improvement shops along with mass retail stores across the country. The China-made mops were sold for the price of $40.
