Zippo recalls candle lighters due to burn hazard

Legal news for Pennsylvania product liability attorneys – Zippo lighters recalled due to burn hazard.

Bradford, PA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov in cooperation with the Zippo Manufacturing Company, announced January 27, 2010 the voluntary recall of the Zippo Slatkin & Co Candle Lighters due to a burn hazard.

All consumers who have purchased these defective lighters are advised to discontinue use for safety purposes. There have been close to 17,500 of these products sold across the country in Bath & Body Works stores and White Barn Candles stores as well as online.

The lighters were imported through Zippo Manufacturing Company in Bradford, Pennsylvania. The hazard of these Zippo lighters is that they can produce a large flame when adjusted to maximum flames, which could potentially injure the user. The CPSC or the company have not received any reports of injuries due to the defective product as of yet.

The Zippo lighter involved in the recall can be identified as having polished chrome or white finish with chrome nozzle. The products had the date codes of G09 or H09. The candle lighter requires refillable butane fuel and is about 6.5 inches long and 1 inch wide.

“Slatkin & Co” along with “Zippo” can be found on the products packaging. Zippo is stamped on the product. The China-manufactured lighters were sold for $10 in November 2009. All who have purchased one of these lighters are advised to contact Zippo to learn how to return the black adjusting nuzzle for a replacement free of charge.
