Product liability lawyer alerts- strollers recalled due to fingertip amputation danger.
Kennesaw, GA—Regal Lager Inc. has participated in the voluntary recall of CYBEX Strollers after it was discovered that the product may pose fingertip amputation and laceration hazards. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov and Health Canada announced the product recall on Wednesday, January 27, 2010.
The Kennesaw, Georgia-based firm, Regal Lager Inc., reported that approximately 1,110 strollers sold in the U.S., and 90 in Canada have been recalled. The CPSC reported, “The stroller’s hinge mechanism poses a fingertip amputation and laceration hazard to the child when the consumer is unfolding/opening the stroller.” The company received a report of one injury as a result of the defective hinge apparatus in which a young boy fractured his finger after placing it in the hinge mechanism.
Ruby, Onyx and Topaz models of CYBEX umbrella strollers are included in the voluntary recall. The brand name, “CYBEX” can be located on the side of the strollers. The strollers, which were manufactured in China, were sold in department and juvenile product retail stores from $140 to $260. The product was sold between August 2009 and November 2009.
Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled strollers immediately to prevent children from being injured as a result of the faulty stroller hinges. Regal Lager is providing consumers with free hinge cover retrofit kits which they may obtain by contacting the Company Service Center at (800) 593-5522 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
