Ayer, MA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A dump truck had a head-on collision with a train transporting railroad employees, Tuesday, February 2, 2010, according to the Boston Globe.
Police and firefighters rushed to investigate and assist at the scene. Officials arrived to find a one-ton dump truck that had been traveling on the train tracks when it collided with the train transporting three railroad employees and toting behind three utility cars. The two-vehicle collision occurred at 8:25 a.m. in Ayer east of the Snake Hill Road railroad crossing.
Officials were not sure how the dump truck got on the train tracks and then ventured toward the direction of an oncoming train. When the train collided with the dump truck, it pushed the truck back 80 feet. It was reportedly only traveling at a moderate speed.
The three employees traveling on the train were uninjured in the crash and remained unidentified. Officials said that the dump truck driver appeared to be in his 20s and was knocked unconscious in the collision. Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived via MedFlight to transport the young driver to an area hospital in Boston to be treated for minor injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the motor vehicle collision to determine the factors involved and what caused the crash.
