The product carried the expiration date of 12/2013, which could be found on the side of the packaging.
Neither Global Commodities nor the FDA has received any reports of illnesses related to this recalled product. The prompt for this recall was after the New York State Agriculture & Markets inspectors sampled the apricots and analyzed it in a food laboratory. The test revealed sulfites that were not listed on the packaging of the product. An investigative look into the company’s productions indicated that a temporary breakdown in production and packaging process was the source of the issue.
Officials reported that if 10 mg of sulfites is ingested, it could cause serious reactions in those who have asthma. The FDA and Global Commodities advised all consumers who purchased these bags of Aahu Barah brand “Dry Apricots” should return the bag to the place it was purchased for a refund.
