Maplewood, NJ (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A three –alarm blaze consumed a house that was home to multiple families in Maplewood, Saturday, January 30, 2010, announced the Star-Ledger.
Multiple township firefighters responded to the scene where the house located on 10 Jacoby Street, was quickly burning to the ground. Firefighters were first alerted of the blaze at 2:49 p.m., when they rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw that the two-story house was completely consumed in flames and black smoke. One township firefighter sustained a knee injury while battling the blaze. Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene to transport him to University Hospital to be cared for by doctors and nurses. The firefighter remained unidentified. One of the fire chief’s at the scene reported that firefighters from Irvington, West Orange, Union, South Orange, Millburn and Newark responded to fire to assist in extinguishing the raging inferno.
Firefighters brought the flames under control at 3:55 p.m. after a relentless battle. The multiple families who had lived in the house escaped unscathed. The Red Cross officials at the scene helped the displaced families to find shelter. Fire officials continue to investigate to determine the cause of the fire. A prior investigation determined that the fire began in the basement.
