CPSC alerts product liability attorneys- Greeting cards with a bead bracelet were recalled over lead paint.
San Francisco Bay, CA—Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov/, in cooperation with Schurman Fine Papers, of Fairfield, Calif., have voluntarily recalled Papyrus Brand Greeting Cards with bracelets due to violations of the federal lead paint standard. The recall was announced on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, as reported by the CPSC.
Nearly 174,000 Papyrus Brand Greeting Cards with bracelets were recalled after the surface paint coating on the bracelets was found to have excessive levels of lead, thus violating the federal lead paint standard. At this time no injuries or incidents were reported in connection with this product. The recalled product involves the Papyrus brand children’s greeting cards, which were sold with an attached wooden bead bracelet. The product is described to have “Happy birthday To You” imprinted on the front of the card, which includes an attached heart bead with the word “smile” printed on the bead. The bracelet also includes wooden beads, with one in the shape of a butterfly. The back of the card says, “USA $6.95 | CAN $10.50 | Made in China | © Jean Card & Gift Company” and has the UPC number 734524634013 in the lower right hand corner. The cards, which were manufactured in China, were sold at card stores and other retail outlets from February 2004 to September 2009 for the price of $7. Consumers are advised to discontinue the use of the product immediately, and contact Schurman Fine Papers at (888) 990-9095 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, for more information.
