California personal injury attorneys alert- Three kids were injured when they were attacked by dogs in Fontana, CA.

San Bernardino, CA—A pack of dogs mauled three siblings, all under the age of 10, as they were walking with their mother on Monday afternoon, February 1, 2010. One of the victims is still hospitalized, and cannot breath on her own, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

Fontana police officers reported three siblings, a 5-year-old girl, a 7-year-old boy, and an 8-year-old girl, were walking with their mother along the train tracks when five dogs attacked them. The dogs, a mastiff and pit bull mixes, apparently escaped from their nearby yard by digging underneath the fencing. The 5-year-old girl was attacked by the mastiff, which pulled her from her mother’s grip and “tossed the child around like a rag doll.” The young girl suffered a punctured lung, broken ribs, and several dog bites. The brother received a large leg laceration, which required 237 staples to close. The 8-year-old girl sustained arm and leg injuries. The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of their serious injuries. The 5-year-old girl is still in the hospital in critical condition, unable to breath without the help of ventilator.

Not long after the brutal attack, the dogs were found by police officer by their home. One was shot when it attacked a police officer; the other four were taken to an animal shelter. They are currently being quarantined, while animal caretakers determine whether they have rabies and if they should be euthanized. The owners of the dogs reportedly cooperated with police, and may face citations for failing to properly confine their pets, although they weren’t immediately ticketed.
