Legal news for Oregon automobile accident attorneys. An elderly man escaped injury when he almost drove his car off the side of a parking garage.

An elderly man drove his car through the parking garage wall of a retirement community in Milwaukie, OR.

Oregon City, OR—A retirement community resident crashed his car through a cement wall, leaving his vehicle dangling off the edge of a parking garage. The elderly man crashed his car on Monday, February 8, 2010 around 12:40 p.m., at the Willamette View Manor’s parking garage on River Road in Milwaukie, as reported by KPTV.

The elderly man, Kenneth Schiedel, 83, reportedly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, which catapulted his Lexus through the concrete wall of the parking garage. Schiedel then apparently got of his car and walked back to his room at the retirement community. Schiedel was later found by firefighters in his room uninjured. He was wearing his seatbelt and the airbags did deploy. Crews were able to secure the Lexus from falling out of the parking garage to the ground below. The car was then towed out the garage by a tow truck. Luckily there was no damage to the structural integrity of the garage itself, while the wall of the garage will need repairs. An investigation is reportedly underway by police officials. It is unknown if the elderly man will receive any citations for the crash or if he will have to pay for the repairs to the parking garage.
