Williamsburg, PA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A massive winter storm moving across the Midwest and over the east coast was the source of a 50-vehicle pileup in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64, Wednesday morning, February 10, 2010, according to CNN.com.
Pennsylvania State police and emergency medical officials reported to the scene where snow continued to come down steadily. The major crash took place where the blustery weather was causing white-out conditions, due to the immense amount of snow being blow around when the motor vehicle accident occurred. The 50 vehicles damaged in the massive crash extended from Exit 247 to Exit 242.
EMS transported seven people involved in the motor vehicle accident to area hospitals with minor injuries. Their identities were not released. It was reported that there were no life-threatening injuries reported. Firefighters were also at the scene to assist with the vehicles and the crash victims. Police officials reported that the westbound lanes were expected to be temporarily shut down from traffic use for several hours so that crews could clean up the roadway. Traffic was being re-routed to Yorktown Road, and police ask that all traveling on the road should avoid I-64 eastbound lanes and the westbound between exits Lightfoot and Fort Eustis due to the 50-car pile-up.
