5 children injured in head-on collision on Gold Mile Highway

Sardis, PA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A motor vehicle accident injured eight people including five children in a head-on collision near Sardis on the Golden Mile Highway, Monday morning, February 15, 2010, as reported by WPXI.com.

Police arrived at the scene of the tragic late morning crash on the Interstate 380, where a car had swerved into the path of an eastbound minivan causing a major collision in Westmoreland County.

Police officials reported that the serious crash took place before noon on the Golden Mile Highway, which involved five children between the ages of 6 and 10 who were occupants in the van. Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene to transport the injured. It was not reported if all the children were taken to the hospital. The driver of the minivan sustained moderate injuries. The identities of the victims were not disclosed.

The driver and female passenger in the other motor vehicle had to be extricated due to the damages caused in the impact of the crash. They both reportedly sustained serious injuries. It was not stated what hospital they were taken to for treatment. Crews cleaned up the wreckage from both vehicles before the Golden Mile Highway reopened. Police continue to investigate the motor vehicle accident to determine the cause.
