A crash involving Vice President Joe Biden’s motorcade that injured Peggy Fleming and Vonetta Flowers is being investigated by the Vancouver Police Department.
Vancouver, Canada—Former American skating gold medalist Peggy Fleming, and former bobsled champion Vonetta Flowers were involved in chain-reaction crash with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden’s motorcade. Injuries were reported in connection with the Sunday, February 14, 2010 crash while on their way to the Olympics, as reported by The New York Times.
The motor vehicle collision (MVC) began when a van slammed into a vehicle in front of the van, which was also in the Vice President’s motorcade. The vehicle in front of the van then slammed into a third motorcade vehicle. The van was reportedly so badly damaged that it could not be driven from the scene. Both Fleming and Flowers were injured in the crash and were treated by a physician who travels with the vice president; Vonetta reportedly smacked her head on the seat cushion in front of her. They were both then taken to a hospital by ambulance for further treatment. The duo has since been released. The captain of the 1980 United States Olympic hockey teams, White House staff members and Secret Service members were also in the car. It is unknown if they were injured as well. The motorcade was reportedly en route to the watch the United States women play China at the hockey venue. The cause of the crash is currently unknown, but the Vancouver Police Department is currently trying to determine if spilt oil on the roadway was to blame.
