Wisconsin employment lawyer alerts- worker in critical condition after suffering severe burns in industrial accident.
Schofield, WI (News)—A worker suffered severe burns in an industrial accident on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. The work-place incident occurred at Quality Surface Processing, a business that “specializes in power-painting and cleaning metals”, according to information provided by WausauDailyHerald.com.
An official from the Schofield Fire Department allegedly reported, “Employees at the business were stripping paint from pieces of metal by putting the metal in a chemical salt bath when the scalding liquid was splashed”, subsequently burning an employee, identified as Eric Simpson. The liquid was approximately 900 degrees when it catapulted into the air, coming into contact with the worker as well as the walls and ceiling of the building. Firefighters at the scene also reportedly had to put out a small blaze that started as a result of the chemical reaction. Two employees allegedly suffered from smoke/chemical inhalation and were treated at the scene.
Fire rescue teams were initially dispatched to the scene after receiving report of an explosion, though it is currently unknown what caused the scorching hot liquid to splash. Simpson was transported to Saint Claire’s Hospital via ambulance and then subsequently transferred to University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Burn Center for treatment by responding medical professionals. He was reportedly listed in critical condition at the burn center. Investigators are looking into the cause of the industrial accident.
