Legal news for New York product liability attorneys – CDC reported 230 cases of food poisoning due to salami nationwide.
New York, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) www.fda.gov with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) www.cdc.gov continue to investigate the nationwide outbreak of Salmonella poisoning due to the recalled peppered-salami products of Daniele Internationale Inc.
There have been 230 cases of people falling ill across the country who were infected with the same strain of Salmonella Montevideo associated with a type of Italian-style sausage product, including salami. The Rhode Island Department of Health and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service officials continue to probe the situation within Rhode Island and other states where cases have arisen. People have fallen ill in at least 44 states and the District of Columbia. Daniele Internationale Inc. has recalled a variety of their meats due to potential contamination. The Company discovered that the spices were contaminated factor in the meats.
FDA officials are now actively investigating the spice companies, mainly the supply chain of black pepper. Thus far, the FDA has not found the strain of Salmonella in the 70 tested samples. The investigation continues and no conclusive evidence has been drawn as of yet.
