Product liability attorney alerts- shock hazard prompts product recall; CPSC announces.
Bluffton, IN (News)—Franklin Electric Co. has participated in the voluntary recall of nearly 38,000 Pumptec Electric Motor Controllers for Submersible Pump Systems due to a shock hazard that consumers may be susceptible to. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov announced the product recall on Thursday, February 18, 2010.
The CPSC announced that the label adhesion on the motor controllers could become loose, subsequently exposing the circuitry. As a result of the defective adhesion, consumers could find themselves being electrocuted by the product. No injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled product as of yet. The voluntary recall allegedly includes “the Pumptec electronic motor controller for 115v/230v submersible motors rated 1/3 to 1 1/2 HP with model number 5800020600 and date codes of 06F45 through 09L45”. Model numbers and date codes are located on the right-hand side of the enclosure on the nameplate label.
The submersible pump system motor controllers were manufactured and sold by dealers throughout the United States for approximately $245 between June 2006 and November 2009. Consumers are urged to contact their Franklin Electric dealer for a complimentary replacement cover, while avoiding physical contact with the exposed circuitry. Franklin Electric can be reached toll free at (866) 841-6039 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or online at www.franklin-electric.com.
