OSHA notified of fatal industrial accident in which worker could have suffered possible traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Celina, OH—An industrial accident resulted in the death of a maintenance technician on Sunday afternoon, February 21, 2010. The fatal workplace incident allegedly occurred at approximately 1:38 p.m., in Celina, Ohio, according to information provided by WHIOTV.com.

Authorities were reportedly notified of the industrial accident at Celina Aluminum Precision Technology (CAPT), in which a worker was severely injured on-the job. The accident took place at 7059 Staeger Road, located in Jefferson Township. The employee, identified as 58-year-old Mark A. Fennig of Van Wert, was apparently working on a water passage machine when he became entangled in the equipment for unknown reasons.

Deputies reported that upon getting stuck in the machine, Fennig’s hard hat was reportedly knocked off, resulting in “visible head trauma”, which seemingly could have left him with a possible traumatic brain injury (TBI). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) http://www.cdc.gov, a traumatic brain injury is defined as a “blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the function of the brain”. Celina emergency medical services (EMS) crews subsequently transported the badly injured worker to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Mary’s. Unfortunately his injuries proved fatal upon his arrival at the medical center. Officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to conduct an investigation into the fatal industrial accident.
