CPSC Product Alert: Burn risk prompts recall of Copco tea kettles

Woodridge, IL (News)—Copco, a sector of Wilton Industries Inc., has participated in the voluntary recall of approximately 132,000 Copco and Wild Tea Leaf Co. Bristol model and Martha Stewart Collection® Enameled Steel Tea Kettles due to the burn hazard they pose. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov announced the recall on Tuesday, February 23, 2010.

According to information provided by the CPSC, “The handle on the tea kettle can come loose, posing a burn hazard to the consumer,” thus prompting the recall. Copco has allegedly received a total of eights consumer reports, claiming the handles became detached or distorted. Only one minor burn has been reported in connection with the recalled product.

The tea kettles, manufactured in Thailand, were sold in white, crème, blue, cobalt, sand, red and green. The Copco and Wild Leaf Tea Co. Bristol model and Martha Stewart Collection® Enameled Steel Tea Kettles were the only models involved in the recall. These tea kettles were reportedly sold in retail stores including Macy’s and Linens ‘n things, as well as online and through mail order. They were reportedly sold from October 2005 to January 2010, for approximately $35.

Consumers have been urged to stop using the recalled tea kettles immediately and contact Copco to receive a full reimbursement. Copco can be reached toll free at (866) 255-9237, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CT as well as on Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The firm may also be contacted online at www.copco.com.
