Legal news for California train accident attorneys. A man was killed at private railroad crossing that had no arms or gates.
California Highway Patrol alerts California train accident lawyers- A Amtrak Surfliner train was involved in a crash at a Ventura County, CA railroad crossing.
Ventura County, CA—A Ventura man was tragically killed by an Amtrak train while crossing an unguarded railroad crossing near Moorpark. The 36-year-old Ventura sales representative was killed while driving north across the railroad tracks that run parallel to Highway 118 near Hitch Boulevard around 10:20 a.m., as reported by the Ventura County Star.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the westbound Amtrak Surfliner train broadsided Joseph Tillery’s pickup truck at the Peach Hills Soils crossing, which pushed the truck nearly a quarter of a mile before coming to a stop. Tillery was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency medical services (EMS) teams after he was removed from his badly damaged pickup truck. No one on the Amtrak train, which was carrying 125 passengers, suffered injury in the deadly collision. Police officials are currently trying to determine if Tillery stopped at the sign before crossing the railroad tracks. The private Peach Hills Soils railroad crossing is reportedly the next crossing to have arms and gates installed. The Amtrak train apparently sustained damage in the collision, which caused it to return to Moorpark station to transfer its passengers to another train. A full investigation is currently underway.
