Conyers, GA (News)—A shock hazard prompted American Electric Lighting to recall Outdoor Lighting Fixtures. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov announced the voluntary recall Wednesday, March 3, 2010.
Although no injuries have been reported to the firm as of yet, the CPSC stated, “Improper wiring in the light fixtures poses a shock hazard to consumers.” To prevent potential electrocution risks, American Electric Lighting, a sector of Acuity Brands Lighting, Inc., recalled approximately 900 outdoor lighting fixtures. The model AVL fixtures, created for use in “parking lots, roadways, commercial environments and office communities”, were created under the American Electric Lighting brand name. The reflector of the light fixtures has the model name, “AVL”, printed on it. The outdoor lighting fixtures were manufactured in Mexico and sold by electrical distributors and sales representatives throughout the United States from September 2008 to September 2009. The selling price for these particular lighting fixtures ranged from $250 to $800.
Consumers have been urged to disconnect power to the outdoor lighting fixtures as a means of hindering shock threats.
