Ethan Allen Roman Shades recalled, strangulation risk for children

Legal news for New York product liability attorneys — Ethan Allen Roman Shades recalled due to strangulation risk for children.

Danbury, CT (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — The government agency, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov announced the voluntary recall of Ethan Allen Global Inc.’s of Roman Shades, March 4, 2010. All consumers are urged to discontinue use of the Roman Shades due to a strangulation hazard.

There have been about 163,000 Roman Shades sold across the country, which were exclusively sold at Ethan Allen Design Centers since 1999 through December 2009. The shades were priced at $400 and $1,000. Ethan Allen Global Inc, located in Danbury, Connecticut, was the wholesaler for the Roman Shades. The reason for the recall was due to the strangulation risk for children. A child can place his/her neck in the loophole of the exposed inner cord found on the fabric backside of the shade. The child may pull the cord out and could become entangled with it posing a strangulation risk if it becomes caught around the child’s throat. Thus far, there have been no reported cases of injury related to this recall.

This product recall involves all shades sold in a variety of sizes and styles and colors of the Ethan Allen Roman Shades. The recalled shades were manufactured in the United States. All who have bought these Roman Shades are advised to remove the shades immediately, especially out of children’s reach, and contact a local Ethan Allen Design Center to receive a repair kit at no charge. For more information, contact Ethan Allen at (888) 339-9398 during their hours of operation between 8:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, or visit the company’s web site at www.ethanallen.com
