Product liability attorney alerts- CPSC announced recall of high chairs due to the fall hazard they pose to youngsters.

Atlanta, GA—Graco Children’s Products Inc. is participating in the voluntary recall of approximately 1.2 million Harmony™ High Chairs, manufactured in the United States, due to the fall hazard they pose to children using them. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov announced the product safety recall on Thursday, March 18, 2010.

According to the CPSC, “The screws holding the front legs of the high chair can loosen and fall out and/or the plastic bracket on the rear legs can crack causing the high chair to become unstable and tip over unexpectedly. This poses a fall hazard to children.” Graco received notification of 464 instances of screws becoming loosened or falling out, as well as reports of cracking on the high chair’s plastic bracket, located on the chair’s back legs. These defects all caused the high chairs to tip over suddenly, resulting in injuries sustained by 24 children. Known injuries ranged from bumps and bruises to consumers’ heads and bodies, scratches, lacerations and even a minor fracture to the arm.

All Harmony™ High Chairs, which were manufactured from November 2003 to December 2009, were included in the recall. The firm is no longer producing Harmony™ High Chairs. The defective high chairs were sold by AAFES, Burlington Coat Factory, Babies “R” Us, Toys “R” Us, Sears, Target, Target.com, Walmart, WalMart.com, Shopko, USA Baby and other retailers throughout the nation from December 2003 to March 2010.
