Brand Evolution boys’ sweatshirts center of drawstring recall

News for product liability attorneys – Recall on Brand Evolution hooded sweatshirts issued due to strangulation hazard from drawstrings.

Voluntary recall for boys sweatshirts found in 13 stores nationwide.

Washington, DC – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://cpsc.gov, in voluntary cooperation with Brand Evolution, of Philadelphia, PA, has issued a recall for sweatshirts with hazardous drawstrings. Brands include Locks All Over Boy’s Hoody, All Over Skaters Boy’s Hoody and Rock Mask Boy’s Hoody. The recalled products have drawstrings through the hoods that pose a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, the CPSC issued guidelines for manufacturing in order to prevent children from strangling and becoming entangled from drawstrings in sweatshirts and jackets. No injuries have been reported.

The recall consists of approximately 2800 units that were being sold at Burlington Coat Factory, Amm One Inc., Avante, Dr. Jays, Stop, E & J Lawrence Corp., Exclusive Wear, G-Pulse Apparel, Hip Hop World, Nouveau, Stop Kid, Unica, and Village Mart. Manufacturing facilities for the product are located in China and Peru.

The CPSC and Brand Evolution offer the consumer two remedies. Consumers should either remove the drawstrings from the sweatshirts or return the garment to where it was purchased for store credit or a full refund.

Any questions or comments should be directed to Brand Evolution via their toll-free number, (877) 330-3911 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. EST Monday through Friday. The company’s website, www.burlingtoncoat.com, also offers guidance.
