Delaware automobile accident – School bus hits deer

Legal news for Delaware automobile accident attorneys – A Sussex Tech High School bus transporting 11 kids hit a deer, that in turn hit two girls riding inside.

Seaford, DE – A school bus traveling to Sussex Tech High School hit a deer early Tuesday, March 22, 2010, which resulted in two students being transported to the hospital for minor injuries, as reported by 6abc.com.

The bus was traveling northbound on Cokesbury Road in Seaford, Delaware when a deer ran in front of  the bus from the west side of the road. The bus hit the deer and the animal was thrown up through the windshield. The body traveled five seats back and landed in the center isle. Two students, both girls, were taken to local hospital, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, and treated for minor injuries. The remaining nine students were released to their parents. The driver was unharmed.

Senior Cp.l. Jeff Whitmarsh, a state police spokesman, said in a statement, “This was certainly a very dangerous and disturbing incident for anyone to have to watch, let alone schoolchildren…We are just very luck no one was more seriously hurt.”

The bus involved is owned by McDowell Bus Services.
