Washington, D.C.—In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov/ the 3T Cycling Srl, of Italy have voluntarily recalled the Ventus Ltd and Ventus Team Bicycle Aerobars. The recall was announced by the CPSC on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 due to fall and/or injury hazards.
Nealry 325 bicycle aerobars distributed by BikeMine, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Quality Bicycle Parts, of Bloomington, Minn.; Security Bicycle Accessories, of Hempstead, N.Y.; and Bicycle Technologies International, Ltd. (BTI), of Santa Fe, N.M., were recalled. The recall was prompted after discovering that the two rubber hand grips on the aerobars, otherwise known as handle bars, can become loose and slip off while riding the bicycle, posing a fall and/or injury hazard to the rider. So far there have been two incidents reported to 3T, which involved adult users who experienced minor abrasions. The CPSC reported, “This recall involves all Ventus Ltd, Ventus Ltd 17, Ventus Ltd Gold, Ventus Ltd Track, Ventus Team and Ventus Team 17 bicycle aerobars. The recalled aerobar models were sold in one size and color for each model; Black with red stripe for the Team and black with silver stripe for the Ltd. The ‘Ventus’ and ‘3T’ logos are on the top side of the bar with the model name.”
The aerobars were sold at independent bicycle retailers and through Internet retailers across the U.S. from January 2008 through November 2009. The product was sold for the retail price of about $1,200 for the Ltd. Models and $1,000 for the Team models.
